Program on Climate Change
The planetary-scale ocean circulation is the keystone of physical, chemical and biological oceanography and an important part of the Earth's climate system. This research area includes many aspects of polar oceanography.
Our affiliate faculty at UW's Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) and adjunct faculty at NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory hire postdocs, graduate students and undergraduates to do research in this area:
- At APL's Air-Sea Interaction and Remote Sensing department, oceanographers conduct research focused on the air-sea interface using a variety of remote sensing techniques
- At APL's Polar Science Center, oceangraphers conduct basic and applied research on the oceanography, climatology, meteorology, biology and ecology of the ice-covered regions on Earth and elsewhere in our solar system
- At NOAA's Climate-Weather Research department, oceanographers seek to understand and predict changes in climate, weather and the oceans.
Faculty and graduate students from many departments have a change to collaborate and communicate within the Program on Climate Change.
