Offboarding
Things to do:
Three months out:
- Faculty should give notice least 3 months before the resignation date, or within 15 days of reappointment notification, whichever occurs later. See more on the OAP website.
One month out:
- Staff and faculty: for those eligible employees who are retiring, if you wish to access retirement plan contributions, contact the UWHR Benefits Office
- Retirees must officially retire from the UW to obtain all rights and benefits. Call or email the UWHR Benefits Office
- Review information about insurance continuation
Two weeks out:

Staff: Make sure you send your supervisor your resignation letter (please note that two weeks is minimum standard business procedure but more time is appreciated)

Elements to include: end date, whether you are transitioning to another appointment within the UW or other state service, retiring

Confirm the Administrator receives a copy to ensure the Workday off-boarding goes smoothly

If you had an office, schedule a walkthrough with Oceanography Facilities & Building Manager Sam Drucker
- If you will need a UW Net ID or email after you leave the UW, you and your supervisor should contact the Administrator
- Meet with your supervisor for an exit interview
- If you are the parent of a child enrolled in a UW on-site childcare center, you must notify the center that you are separating from UW employment
Last Day:
- If you have any keys, return keys to Sam Drucker or Bill Nitsche
- If you were assigned any computing equipment or other equipment that was either purchased for you or you were reimbursed for, return the UW-purchased equipment to your supervisor
- Update your address in Workday so that you can receive end-of-year tax forms
