Offboarding

Things to do:

Three months out:

  • Faculty should give notice least 3 months before the resignation date, or within 15 days of reappointment notification, whichever occurs later. See more on the OAP website.

One month out:

  • Staff and faculty: for those eligible employees who are retiring, if you wish to access retirement plan contributions, contact the UWHR Benefits Office
  • Retirees must officially retire from the UW to obtain all rights and benefits. Call or email the UWHR Benefits Office
  • Review information about insurance continuation

Two weeks out:

  • Staff: Make sure you send your supervisor your resignation letter (please note that two weeks is minimum standard business procedure but more time is appreciated)
    • Elements to include: end date, whether you are transitioning to another appointment within the UW or other state service, retiring
    • Confirm the Administrator receives a copy to ensure the Workday off-boarding goes smoothly
  • If you had an office, schedule a walkthrough with Oceanography Facilities & Building Manager Sam Drucker
  • If you will need a UW Net ID or email after you leave the UW, you and your supervisor should contact the Administrator
  • Meet with your supervisor for an exit interview
  • If you are the parent of a child enrolled in a UW on-site childcare center, you must notify the center that you are separating from UW employment

Last Day:

  • If you have any keys, return keys to Sam Drucker or Bill Nitsche
  • If you were assigned any computing equipment or other equipment that was either purchased for you or you were reimbursed for, return the UW-purchased equipment to your supervisor
  • Update your address in Workday so that you can receive end-of-year tax forms
