UW Oceanography Alum Benjamin Van Mooy Named 2024 MacArthur Fellow

University of Washington School of Oceanography alum and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution oceanographer Benjamin Van Mooy has been awarded a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, informally known as the “genius grant.”

Van Mooy is a senior scientist and interim vice president for Science and Engineering at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). Van Mooy earned his Ph.D. in chemical oceanography from the UW School of Oceanography in 2003. He also completed a master’s degree at the UW in the same field.
