Daily Plastics Report

Manta Net haul

Sunday Dec 26th:  Boxing day.  Today's Manta Net is brought to you by Alli and Sidney.  We didn't catch many plastics, but we saw a sunfish!

Saturday Dec 25th: Unfortunately, the plastics haul today was the largest of the trip - we got lots of small plastics in the manta net, including a piece of fishing line and a large piece of floating debris was recovered as well.

Friday Dec 24th: Some plastic in the manta net but this seems like a relatively low-plastic day :-)

Thursday Dec 23rd: this evening we will enter the heart of the garbage patch. We haven't seen any large patches of floating debris, which is encouraging, but we do catch many bits of plastic in each manta net that we pull through the water.  This morning's haul seems mostly to be composed of styrofoam.

Wednesday Dec 22nd: lots of plastic bits in the net samples

Tuesday Dec 21st: we are staring to see bits of plastic debris in all our Manta net tows, the amount of plastic seems to be increasing as we move east, but time will tell if this pattern will remain consistent.

Monday Dec 20th: large debris spotted by crew, no plastics visible in the manta net tow

Sunday Dec 19th:  no debris observed, no plastics visible in the manta net tow
