Call To Action Letters
In the spring of 2020, School of Oceanography Graduate Students, Post Docs, and Undergraduates were moved to action in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and growing unrest in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. In reflecting upon our own community, they identified structures that perpetuate racism and inequity in academia, and began down the path of dismantling those problematic systems in our department, desiring to foster a community that is safe and inclusive for all people. The following letters outline their demands for action from the school’s administration in drastically rethinking how we operate. Also linked below are the administration responses.
