I’ve always been curious about the blank, unlabeled spots on maps.

This summer George Roth has been participating in the NSF funded Svalbard Research Experience for Undergraduate program in Svalbard Norway.   This REU program focuses on understanding how high latitude glaciers, melt-water streams, and sedimentation in lakes and fjords respond to changing climate.  George has posted some amazing photographs on the ongoing blog from this years participants:
