Sadness at the dock

As we left the dock today we said goodbye for now to three of our fellow students, Ernesto, Jassem and Maleen. They were planning to sail on the expedition but the consulate of Fiji, located in Washington DC, was unable to provide visas in time and so the ship was required to have the three disembark. With sad hearts the three headed off to Waikiki for a one-day vacation instead of a 16 day research expedition. We are not happy.
