Oceanography High School Interns

Oceanography High School Interns 2017

This year’s UW School of Oceanography high school interns are working hard on their summer research projects.  Six students from around the region were selected from a highly competitive group of applicants.  Jenika (Interlake High School) and Jeffery (Skyline High School) evaluating pollutant loads in Puget Sound via solid phase extraction and GC-MF-TOF technologies.  Bryce (Juanita High School) and Sophia (Center School) are enumerating plankton, bacteria and viruses in different basins of Puget Sound.  Alida (Franklin High) and Grey (Sammamish High) are measuring microplastic loads in the main basins of Puget Sound.

Mentors include members of the Keil, Rocap and Sachs labs, as well as colleagues at UW-Tacoma.  This project is funded by NSF.

The annual student symposium will be Tuesday July 18th from 1-2pm in OSB 425.  Come join us!
