Effects of ocean currents and the geographical distribution of plastic fragments around New Zealand

Plastic particle concentrations collected along the surface ocean were investigated in relation to surface ocean currents. Previous research around New Zealand’s east coast doesn’t have much data in publication to date. What transports plastics and causes them to converge at certain points off of New Zealand's Coastline?  Plastics were expected to intersect at points with high current velocities and where there were year-round eddies present.

What was your best memory from the school of Oceanography?
Going out of the R/V Rachel Carson for her second voyage ever as part of the School of Oceanography!

What was your favorite oceanography class and why?
OCEAN 320: Coastal Oceanography. I loved how the class brought together all the different aspects of Oceanography and challenged me to use concepts I have learned from my time in the School of Oceanography and at UW
