YOUR FACULTY MENTOR

Each student is assigned a faculty mentor. You should make it a priority to meet with your faculty mentor as soon as possible; subsequent meetings should be quarterly. Topics that would be appropriate to discuss with your faculty adviser include:

  • Research interests and opportunities for participation in research
  • Discussion of the oceanography profession
  • Advice on possible graduate study programs and strategies for preparation for graduate school

Matters of a more practical nature (course scheduling, policies and procedures of the School, College and University) would be more appropriately taken up with the department's academic advisor, Michelle Townsend.

We hope that this opportunity for greater interaction with the School faculty will enrich your educational experience here at the University.  Michelle is always available and interested to discuss with you any aspect of the School's educational program.

**Note: You should meet with your faculty mentor at the very least, once in the Fall and once in the Spring. If you don’t know who your faculty mentor is, please ask Michelle.

THE DOOR TO MY OFFICE

If Michelle Townsend is in, you are always welcome. Her office is located in OTB, room 108.
