Class of 2019
Seniors! Congratulations on your graduation!
The Senior Thesis Symposium, a series of short talks on the research of our graduating seniors will take place in the afternoons of June 11 and June 12, 1:00pm-4:30pm in the Ocean Sciences Building, Room 425. Fascinating short presentations of our seniors’ research from many sites in Puget Sound, the North Pacific, Colorado and Argentina. Topics range from the first measurements of plastics within the water column, the noise of Washington State ferries and their possible impact on marine mammals, to estimating the height of tsunamis in Puget Sound and the concentration of heavy metals around marinas. Faculty, students and the senior’s family members are all invited.
The Oceanography Departmental Graduation Celebration will be held the evening of Thursday, June 13. Door open at 6:30 and the event will begin at 7PM in the Center for Urban Horticulture. Our own department ceremony mixes some formality with important community and family interactions that are missing from the large formal graduation ceremony in Husky Stadium. Each student is introduced and their academic achievements and thesis research highlighted. The event is followed by a cake and soft drink celebration and graduation photos.
