Senior thesis title and description: "The Extent of Phreatomagmatic Volcanism in American Samoa"
Explosive volcanoes in American Samoa have changed the seafloor for over 30 kilometers! This eruption caused volcanic ash to form gravity waves on the seafloor that decreased in roughness moving away from the eruption site.
Most memorable experience as an undergraduate in the School of Oceanography: My most memorable experience at the School of Oceanography is the community. I have loved first fridays, the senior cruise, and my classes because I get to be surrounded by classmates who love the same things I do (shoutout the ocean). I also will never forget the OTB basement and the times at Friday Harbor.
Favorite class: My favorite class was OCEAN 320 because I love the coast! It was awesome to learn about how the ocean interacts with landmasses and what that means for humans. I also liked looking at satellite images of sediment transport and wave influences.
Future plans after graduation: I am working as a Research Assistant to Dr. Deborah Giles at Wild Orca as well as serving as Science Director for the EARTHGANG Foundation. I want to push climate action and scale science-based solutions.
