Mr President
By Sophie G and the 12-4 watch
12/30
Our watch (along with the geology group) collected the last two grab samples, both of which were successful in collecting sediments. Afterwards we continued on the last mapping track line, along which we used the multibeam and chirp to map the bathymetry of the seafloor. We fixed a mistake from earlier in the day, where we actually missed mapping the caldera, and changed our track lines to go over the caldera and had time to add another grab sample. The swath of the multibeam varies with the depth and the swath was smaller than what we assumed it would be, which caused us to miss the caldera. At the first grab sample during our watch, we also took a bucket sample for Maddy and Isaac did a Manta Net. The two of us in geology ended the shift monitoring the mapping and the rest of the group played cards.

Our watch helped Maddy to secure her set up for when the waters get rougher and helped to empty the water out of her samples so she could replace her cartridges, as they were getting very dirty from her water samples and slowing down the drip rate. The rest of the group participated in vortex practice and filtering chlorophyll. Later, Emma practiced oxygen titrations with Max and Mark. During all of our watches Cody has been slaving away on his computer working on his project. Lastly, Jonah lead the group in a very important game of taco cat goat cheese pizza and President.
