Senior thesis title and description: “Methane Seep Contribution to Sedimentary Organic Matter in Puget Sound, Washington”
My study aims to explore the cycling of carbon at a methane seep in Puget Sound, and how the emission of methane from seeps affects the composition and storage of carbon in sediments.
Most memorable experience as an undergraduate in the School of Oceanography: Sailing on the RV Nathaniel B. Palmer for over a month conducting water sampling and deploying biogeochemical Argo Floats in the Southern Ocean. Getting to step foot on Antarctica!
Favorite class: Probably Ocean 220! I loved the fieldwork and the opportunity to start exploring what doing real research looks like. I had a great time on the Friday Harbor field trip and it gave me a really valuable opportunity to get to know many of the students in our class.
Future plans after graduation: I am applying for seagoing marine technician jobs! Nothing lined up yet, but fingers crossed…
