Congratulations to the Class of 2023! Believe it or not, graduation season is upon us. A time of year when we come together to celebrate our graduates and their many accomplishments here at UW and the College of the Environment.
This year's graduation will be in person on Thursday, June 8, at the Urban Horticulture Center. Please consider attending and cheering on our graduates. It's a really fun event. Our commencement speaker this year is Dr. Mikelle Nuwer. Rick will also wax on poetic, let you know that he's proud of you, he'll miss having you around, and will welcome you to the world of being an alumnus. The School is still here for you, posting job openings and providing happy hours and events for alumni! You are always welcome here – stop back often for a coffee or a chat.

College of the Environment Honors Class of 2023 Graduates
In appreciation of their contributions to enriching our community, the College is honoring our graduates through funding a project jointly with the Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF). Based on the recommendation of our Student Advisory Council and a vote by our graduating students, the College will help fund the Resiliency Tunnel Project for the UW Farm. The UW Farm is a 1.5-acre student powered urban farm that provides locally grown produce to UW students, staff, faculty and the greater community through local partners and the UW Food Pantry. As demands during the academic year grow, the summer growing season is incredibly important for supplying that demand. The Climate impacts to the UW campus are already felt by the UW Farm, in the form of extremes of moisture, heat, and cold that reduce crop output. With the Campus Sustainability Fund and our support, the UW Farm will begin construction on a high tunnel, a USDA-approved method for season extension, to protect crops and extend the production season by multiple months while providing an educational space for the community. The project also incorporates small-scale solar and rainwater catchment systems, creating a sustainable and resilient space for long term benefit. We are thrilled to be a part of the Resiliency Tunnel Project and to continue to support UW Farm and their mission to become a campus center for urban agriculture and sustainability.
